The Cognitive Neuroscience Unit (CNU) uses cutting-edge technologies to explore the relationship between the brain, behaviour and cognition across the lifespan. Our researchers use a range of brain stimulation, neurophysiological and neuroimaging techniques to investigate how cognition, behaviour and biology are linked, and we strive to provide the latest understandings in social, cognitive and affective human neuroscience.
The CNU examines both non-clinical and clinical populations to better understand a range of conditions, including neurodevelopmental disorders, common mental disorders and acquired brain injuries. Through clinical trials, we also aim to develop novel interventions that draw on current neuroscience approaches and understandings. These interventions span both behavioural and pharmacological approaches, reflecting the breadth of our translational research agenda.

The CNU supervises a large cohort of Higher Degree by Research candidates (PhD and Doctor of Psychology) alongside Honours, Graduate Diploma, Clinical Masters and Masters by Research students, embedded across our six labs and supported through Deakin Postgraduate Research Scholarships, NHMRC- and ARC-linked studentships, and philanthropic funding.
