Emergency departments provide a unique opportunity to initiate engagement and mental health intervention with vulnerable young people and their families.

However, this opportunity is often missed, with few evidence-based interventions available to support young people at this time.

This study aims to explore clinician perspectives about:

  1. The intervention needs for young people and their families following presentation to the emergency department for mental health-related reasons
  2. Key challenges and opportunities to improve care for young people and their families following presentation to the ED for mental health concerns
  3. The acceptability and feasibility of a single session, family-focussed intervention supporting young people and their families following presentation to the ED for mental health concerns.
