We study the factors that cause poor health and development outcomes as well as those that protect people’s wellbeing in this generation and the next.

By understanding what matters, we can build resilient populations with the capacity to handle life’s challenges.

Our work

We manage some of the longest-running longitudinal cohort studies in Australia and New Zealand, the longest running of which is The Australian Temperament Project (ATP), which commenced in 1983 which now spans three generations. Our long-term investment world-class studies provides us with a wealth of evidence that is critical to narrowing down what matters most for healthy human development.

Our expertise

Our team brings expertise in prevention science, developmental science and lifespan research. We use advanced data science tools (including descriptive, causal and predictive modelling) to track and understand how health and development unfolds across the lifespan and into future generations.

Knowing what matters points us to what works

By understanding what matters we can use these insights to determine what works (Intervention Sciences) to build strengths and address risks before problems develop or intervene early.
